Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce News

The Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce wants the area businesses in the North Thompson to know they are advocating for the business community to promote economic stability and viability.

Chamber director Cheryl Thomas speaking on behalf of the local Chamber said, “Our Chamber is working with dedication to supporting local businesses. We are encouraging businesses to connect with us if they have questions about membership benefits. We are also having an upcoming job fair on March 13 at Clearwater Secondary School which will be open to the public from 3:30 – 6 pm and we are looking forward to a great turnout as in past years.”

The Clearwater Chamber is working in partnership with the BC Chamber of Commerce. In a statement from Fiona Famulak, president and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, she commented on the recent release of the Budget 2024 by the provincial government. Famulak said, “We are grateful for the province’s decision to increase the Employer Health Tax threshold from $500,000 to $1,000,000. This will enable small businesses to lower their costs and direct those additional dollars to hiring staff or investing in innovation that drives productivity and business growth.”

Famulak added, “However, the increase in spending and rising debt levels over the fiscal plan raise concerns about the province’s ability to afford the investments that are planned. The continued reliance on deficit spending means we are transferring responsibility for paying for today’s government services onto our future lives and future generations.”

We need a thriving business community creating and sustaining good-paying jobs and an economic environment that attracts investment. The BC Chamber of Commerce will therefore continue to advocate for policies that enable businesses to prosper, British Columbians to thrive, and communities to flourish.

The Clearwater and District board of directors would like to invite businesses and the general public to attend the upcoming Job Fair hosted by the Chamber and WorkBC on March 13.
