VISI.NEWS | SINGAPORE – The Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE), Singapore Management University, today announced the finalists of the “Revolutionary 50” (RVLT50). The RVLT50 finalists will present innovations that have the potential to change the world before a panel of judges at the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition (LKYGBPC) Finals Week, taking place from 11-15 September 2023 in Singapore.
With the theme “Innovations Beyond Boundaries – Reimagining a Smart, Sustainable & Resilient Future”, this competition challenges young startup founders to answer global challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship in the form of advanced technology solutions.
The number of innovative works registered at the 11th LKYGBPC successfully broke the record, namely 1,000 works. This number increased by 20% from the 10th LKYGBPC. So that the number of ideas and human resources taking part in this event is more diverse, the RVLT50 finalists now include 55 student teams from all over the world.
LKYGBPC focuses on five areas: Urban Solutions & Sustainability; Manufacturing, Trade & Connectivity; Health and Human Potential; Smart Nation and Digital Economy; and Media & Entertainment. Among these categories, finalists from the Urban Solutions & Sustainability category dominated this competition, contributing 25 of the 55 finalists (45%). Finalists in this category want to overcome urban challenges and improve aspects of sustainability.
Shirley Wong, Chairperson, LKYGBPC Steering Committee, said: “As urbanization and sustainability continue to drive world growth, solutions that are able to address infrastructure and environmental challenges are increasingly needed. We think that various ideas have the potential to revolutionize the urban sector. “So, we are happy to witness the progress of the finalists in making history as makers of future breakthroughs, and making a positive long-term impact on society.”
Two members from each finalist team will visit Singapore to take part in BLAZE, held at Singapore Management University from 11-15 September. BLAZE is an event that lasts a whole week. BLAZE will provide facilities to expand intergenerational networks, panel discussions, field visits, and mentoring sessions. In this way, BLAZE provides an atmosphere that fosters learning, collaboration and personal development. BLAZE is also open to business opportunities in Singapore as a country home to many multinational company headquarters.
Open to the public, the LKYGBPC Final Round is an exciting opportunity for visitors who want to directly witness the talent, expertise and enthusiasm of the finalists when they present in front of the jury to win a prize worth S$2.5 million.
