Anthropic seeks Nasdaq listing amid massive AI spending - anthropic nasdaq ipo
Anthropic files for Nasdaq IPO amid record AI spending, aiming to capitalize on explosive revenue growth in the competitive AI sector.

Anthropic, the creator of the Claude AI chatbot, has submitted its US initial public offering (IPO) registration to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) without specifying its fundraising target, share price, or valuation. The filing, made on October 26, plans for a listing on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT. Earlier in the year, the company had already filed confidential IPO documents in June.

The submission highlights the company’s explosive revenue growth alongside the rising expenses tied to AI infrastructure. In the first half of 2026, revenue climbed to $16.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion in the same period the prior year. Operating losses shrank to $693 million from $2.1 billion in the first half of 2025, though the company also posted adjusted operating income of $1.6 billion for the period, reversing a prior adjusted loss of $1.8 billion.

The filing also details significant future financial commitments. Anthropic faces $417 billion in minimum payment obligations over time, primarily covering computing hardware, data-center leases, and cloud services. Some of these agreements stretch to 2031, with further capacity additions planned between 2028 and 2031. Meeting these obligations depends on continued revenue increases, as much of its income stems from customer usage rather than fixed contracts.

Funds raised through the IPO will support general corporate needs, including working capital, operational costs, capital expenditures, computing infrastructure, and hiring. The offering will include new shares and those sold by existing investors, though Anthropic will not benefit from the latter. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are leading the underwriting process.

Building AI systems requires substantial upfront spending on computing resources. Unlike conventional software, developing and operating large language models demands ongoing investment in hardware, energy, and data storage. The scale of Anthropic’s financial commitments reflects both industry expansion and the uncertainties of predicting future demand. Without consistent revenue growth, even profitable phases could face strain from long-term lease obligations.

The IPO represents another step for Anthropic as it aims to grow while managing financial responsibilities. The company’s obligations show how AI infrastructure expenses can exceed revenue in early stages, a trend observed across the sector. Whether investors will support its expansion path remains uncertain.
