Macao Expo 2026 runs 10–12 April at Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo under the theme Global Convergence, Future Horizons.

The Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) returns this week for its 14th edition. From 10 to 12 April, global tourism leaders will convene at the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo under the theme “Global Convergence, Future Horizons”. Organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), this year’s edition positions the SAR as a dynamic platform for innovation, collaboration and diversification within the travel industry. More than a traditional trade show, MITE 2026 reflects the evolving nature of tourism, spotlighting five key highlights that capture emerging trends and future opportunities.

Multi-destination travel takes the lead

This year’s focus centers on multi-destination travel, driven by Macao’s role as host of both the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting and the 67th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting. The engaging and interactive “APEC multi-destination itineraries,” introduced by participating travel agencies and available for purchase on-site, are designed to encourage regional exploration. These itineraries reflect a broader push towards seamless travel across Asia-Pacific destinations. Visitors can engage with this concept through the “MITE X APEC Stamp Passport” campaign, where a complimentary passport invites them to collect stamps from booths representing APEC member economies.

Food and culture also play a key role. The Foodie Market, The Cellar and the Coffee Station come together under the “Asia-Pacific gastronomy showcase”, offering a curated selection of signature dishes and beverages from across the region for a truly immersive experience. Macao’s strategic position as a bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries remains a focal point. This connection is reinforced by the presence of Portuguese and Spanish pavilions, while initiatives such as the China–Spain–Portugal Tourism Product Promotion Seminar create new opportunities for business collaboration.

Inclusivity is another priority. The new and improved “Silk Road · Halal products pavilion” and dedicated networking sessions on Muslim-friendly tourism demonstrate a growing commitment to inclusivity, aligning with global demand for tailored travel experiences.

Technology and wellness reshape the industry

The Tourism Technology Exhibition Hall debuts cutting-edge solutions redefining the travel experience—from digital platforms to intelligent tourism services. Among the standout features is the Low-Altitude Economy Pavilion, which spotlights emerging developments in urban air mobility and low-altitude tourism. Live-streaming, with robots and international influencers conducting promotions, amplifies the expo’s global reach. For the first time, the Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital will participate in MITE, highlighting the city’s growing capabilities in medical and wellness tourism. This initiative is part of a broader “one expo, two destinations” approach that connects Macao with Hengqin, supporting cross-regional collaboration within the Greater Bay Area.

Forums and exchange programmes focusing on health, wellness and the “silver economy” underline the increasing importance of travel experiences that prioritise wellbeing, particularly for ageing populations.

Engaging younger travellers

Looking ahead, MITE also places a strong emphasis on engaging younger travellers. The newly introduced “Magnetic creative hub” is designed to resonate with Generation Z through interactive workshops, cultural showcases and creative content. Central to this initiative is MAK MAK, Macao’s tourism mascot, who is being relaunched through a new IP licensing programme. At the “Culture and creativity hub”, a “Mak Mak & friends” photo installation will showcase the mascot’s many personas alongside a selection of licensed merchandise. The character is set to become a primary vehicle for storytelling, reflecting an experience-driven approach to destination marketing.

Spanning 30,000 square metres and featuring nearly 1,500 booths, the expo continues to grow in scale and international reach. With over 600 hosted buyers from around the world, MITE reinforces its position as a leading platform for global tourism exchange. Alongside industry-focused activities, the event welcomes the general public, offering access to travel deals, destination showcases and a wide range of interactive experiences.

The Expo brings together the latest tourism offerings and destination insights from Macao and around the world, alongside a range of exclusive, event-only deals from exhibitors. Visitors can explore discounted hotel stays, travel packages, airfares and other promotions — ideal for planning getaways during the Labour Day period or the summer season. Those who spend 300 patacas or more on-site, over the three days of MITE, will be eligible to enter the “MAK MAK Grand Lucky Draw”, with the chance to win a selection of appealing prizes.
